Two men were arrested in connection with a bizarre string of events in Somerville Wednesday evening that ended with a car crash at the Twin City Mall. Somerville police officials said it all began when shots were fired from a car on School Street near Maple Street around 5:45 p.m. When police tried to pull over a suspect vehicle in the area of 226 Pearl Street a chase ensued. Police chased the car toward Cambridge before it eventually crashed into a fence at the Twin City Plaza. The driver then tried to back up and hit a police cruiser several times before him and a passenger were both arrested. Police arrested 22-year-old Richard Verrocchi and 27-year-old Richard MacDonald. Both were charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, failing to stop for police, unlawful possession of a firearm and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
